Senior Investigator


This position is responsible for providing protection and security to Library customers, staff, property and assets.

  • Conducts investigations of criminal activity against the Library and Library staff while in the performance of their duties.
  • Conducts research and personal interviews in accordance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations. Analyzes all necessary information and documents related to investigations.
  • Performs inspections of physical security systems and prepares work orders to correct deficiencies on security equipment, alarm panels and computers. 
  • Makes recommendations to ensure that all library facilities have adequate protection from unlawful intrusions and other criminal activity.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert where applicable and will provide testimonials regarding the incident, the process and/or tools utilized to identify the subject (s) and/or loss.
  • Represents security operations department on various market and/or area level committees and working groups.
  • Conducts briefings with departmental management and law enforcement as necessary.
  • Maintains communication with all Library agencies.  Maintains regular contact with local police authorities.  Interacts with all law enforcement agencies as required.
  • Conducts physical security risk assessments to ensure that the Library meets or exceeds the recommendations that are made by the Office of Homeland Security. 
  • Develops, implements and maintains security and safety programs for the Library.  Using crime prevention techniques, develops and delivers safety training to all staff.
  • Participates in developing recommended changes and/or updates to written policies relevant to areas or expertise.
  • May supervise security workforce on a weekly rotational basis.
  • Serves as a backup to the Fire Safety Manager.
  • Prepares departmental reports.
  • Performs other duties as required.

The schedule for this position will include Saturdays and evenings.


  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency or General Equivalency Diploma and 5 years of investigation experience, including supervisory experience in the security field or law enforcement required. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology, Police Science or related field in combination with 1 year of investigation and supervisory experience in the security/ law enforcement preferred. 
  • Must possess a clean and valid driver’s license and 2 years of driving experience. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and customer service skills required.  Must be proficient  with MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
